DIY Baseball Hat Display for less than $2 each

My teenage daughter loves to wear cowboy boots and base ball hats. She’s got a bit of a collection going now and I wanted to make it easy for her to store them, and to show them off as practical decor. But when I went looking for single hat displays all I could find were expensive ones from a site that I choose not to purchase from. So I had to figure it out. I analyzed the basic shapes I would need and eventually settled on a cereal bowl with someting under it to lift it just a little so the hats would rest on the shelf properly. I stopped in Dollar Tree and found clear glass candle holders that worked perfectly. These are not tiny votive holders they are the next size up from that. Armed with my cereal bowls, spray paint, spray sealer, and a hot glue gun I got to work.

The Prep

I wiped the cereal bowls down and laid them out to spray paint them. Light coats, and I had to do about 10 of them, because they kept getting moved and the paint got messed up, it was a 2 day process. After they were well coated with the spray paint, I did probably 5 or 6 coats of a clear spray sealer. So the paint wouldn’t chip off while being used. I did this a few days before I glued them together so the paint and sealer had time to set.

The Assembly

A little hot glue, on the bottom of the glass candle holder, press the painted cereal bowl on it and let it set. It’s literally the perfect heght for shelf sittin.
